MEC Motlhabane to lead multi-stakeholder learner transport safety summit
About 500 multi stakeholders such as learners, teachers, parents and transport operators will deliberate on the Learner Transport Safety Education Summit set to promote road safety for learners using scholar transport. The Summit is a culmination of a schools visit campaign undertaken over the last two months to teach school learners about Learner Transport Good Behaviour Code.Over 45 schools have participated in the campaign and over 35 000 learners got exposed to the Learner Transport Safety message This campaign is set to campaign promotes safe transporting of learners by reducing distractive behaviour that may disturb the bus driver and endanger the lives of learners and other road users. Under the Theme: “Make Every Journey to School a Safe One”, the summit will be attended by all schools that participated in the school visit campaign represented by the selected Learner Safety Ambassadors, School Managers/Teachers, Learner Transport Operators and Parent Representatives. Joining MEC Motlhabaneon the panel discussion will be TETA Communications Officer, Mr. SabeloMbuku, RTMC Chairperson, Adv. Zola Majavu, Transport Economist, Mr. Mokoena, who is a Lecturer at the North West University and Secretary General of SANSBOC, Mr. Final Kgodumo. The panelist will engage directly with stakeholders including learners, parents, teachers and transport operators. The dialogue by stakeholders will go deeper to seek solutions to the rising violet incidents of fighting amongst learners on school buses and in some cases against drivers.
